TaekwonKids Grading.jpg

Today`s grading saw many students moved on to their higher belt. The international examiner, Master Tam, said that he was satisfied with the overall result and effort put in by all students. However there there were a few exceptions; a couple of students were so nervous that their pants were shaking! The grading was conducted in a strict and professional manner with most black belts attended. Most of the techniques were tested in Korean terminology.1st Dan ITF certificates were presented to the new black belt holders which saw big smiles on their faces.

It was Bondi Beach Dojang students first time experience testing at this grading. Students were accompanied by BooSabum Victor Martin and Mark Balfour.

Congratulations and welcome to the Black Belts Club to:
Nathan Dang, Taisei Tam, Izumi Tam, Serene & Othello Heka, Chris Lai and Brison Chow.
It was a pity that Keffe Gozali could not attend due to work commitment, Bale Krstevski who broke his arm the day before and Othello hurt his back.
More photos will be posted in the gallery.

ITF Vietnam Revived. Thank you to Senior Master Phap Lu from Canada for your valuable hard work in bringing ITF Vietnam back.

As you may know that ITF Vietnam is one of the 9 founding members of the International Taekwon-Do Federation in March 22nd 1966.  Due to the political matter, ITF Vietnam has stopped their activities under the order of the regime since 1975.

Lately, the political atmosphere in all parties, WTF, ITF, Governments, IOC etc. have been changed.  Our ITF President, Prof. Chang Ung has been working hard to talk to Vietnam Olympic officials in different occasions.  Last year, Master Phu Nguyen and Master Phap Lu paid a special visit to Vietnam and conducted a seminar by meeting with all hard-core Masters/Instructors.  These Masters/Instructors have a great heart with our Founder.  They have never changed, they still practice the original CHON-JI HYUN secretly and underground in the past 3 decades.  They have been waiting for this historical moment for Re-activating the ITF in Vietnam.

Vietnam authorities has issued a Bill 48 to give permission for ITF Taekwon-Do style to be taught in Vietnam. The Can Tho Province of Vietnam where most of our hard-core Masters/Instructors live Have obtained an official recognition letter from their Can Tho Department of Culture and Sports for their newly formed Board of Directors of Can Tho city. Our ITF President, Prof. Chang Ung, has issued an Official letter to give their recognition.

Master Phu Nguyen and Master Phap Lu are the Vietnamese origin.  Together with Master Phu Nguyen`s instructor, Master La van Long, all Masters/Instructors and the great support of our President, Prof. Chang Ung,  have all tried very hard to achieving this historical moments of the Taekwon-Do history of ITF Vietnam.

Welcome to our newest instructor BooSabum Victor Martin - Bondi Beach Dojang
Mr. Martin is no stranger in the ITF scene. He has been instructing Taekwon-Do for many years with vast experience in th USA. Mr. Martin started Taekwon-Do late 1989 in Kogarah NSW with his father. After achieving green belt he moved to USA with his family and continued training under Master David Karstadt. While training with Master Karstadt he attended many tournaments, including Western Invitational tournaments held in Las Vegas, as well as the Nationals.  He trained with the US Special Technique prior to turning 18, then as a micro weight fighter once turned 18. Mr. Martin tested for his1st degree in August of 2000, and 2nd degree in December of 2002 under Master David Karstadt. I have attended seminars with General Choi`s son, (then)Master Choi Jung Hwa, as well as many instructors courses.

Returning from USA he has now taken up the Bondi Beach Dojang from his ex-instructor and has joined us to promote the art in the world most beautiful beach. Training is at the Bondi Beach Pavilion on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6 pm. His class is also assisted by Mark Balfour who has years of experience from the UK.

A little background about assistant instructor Mr. Mark Balfour:-  He have 3 competition medals under his belt gained around 1994 (3 separate competitions) one being from the British Open ITF. Gold, silver and Bronze for Breaking, Patterns and Sparing respectively. In addition to Taekwondo instructing he has a post graduate in Teaching and have taught physical education to high school students over a period of seven years.
Prior to his training in Australia, he was fortunate to train with Master Silvio Simac (aged 36) from 1992 - 2000, a former world champion, and martial arts actor.

Welcome on board!

Master Tam Taekwon-Do Workshop @ Woy Woy Dojang.
Sabum Amanda has organised a successful workshop at her dojang on Sunday 15-5-2010.
Her students were eagerly waiting for Master Tam to turn up for a full on specific training.
All students have warmed up and ready to go on their Tul workshop. It started at 1 pm and ended at 7.30pm. Phew!! long hours but Master Tam has cleverly divided the hourly sessions in specific belt group for Tul, Step-Sparring and Jayu Matsogi. It was a great relief to see all students walked away with refined techniques after this intensive workshop.

If you did not attend this workshop.....what can I say.....you just missed it. Master Tam even put on his world championship sparring gears at the sparring session.

Big Thank You Master Tam for taking your time out for this most valuable workshop. "And yessssssssssss.......it felt really good to have a kick in my guts by that treasured sparring boot by Master Tam" said an upcoming champion student.

Congratulations Sabum Alan and Liz on the arrival of your baby boy on 22-4-2010 . Mum is doing very well and Reuben weighs in a healthy 3.6kg

12 March 2010 saw the final grading for the Black-tip holders.
It was all nerves for the black-tip holders to go through their final round of their grading. Over 2 solid hours each individual was tested on the self-defense techniques. Not only must they perform the defence against armed and unarmed attacker, they have to explain the execution as well as naming the attacking tools to vital spots intended for.

2010 1st Master Tam Pattern Seminar
A pattern seminar was conducted by master Tam at the new South Strathfield Dojang on 13-3-2010. The seminar was divided into 3 session; White to Yellow Belt, Green-tip to Blue-tip and Blue Belt and above. Attendance was limited to those 15 per session on a pre-booked basis. Students had all the chance to ask questions and great opportunity to learn their pattern among their belt group. Those who have missed out on the seminar are encouraged to pre-book their next seminar early next time.

Master Tam along with his students, Sabum Ray, Sabum Alan, Jacek, Kei, Keffe and Colin had some hands on grappling work and self-defense training by Sensei Richard Norton.
It was Valentine Day & Chinese New Year Eve and there is nothing else in our mind but eagerly we all woke up and looked forward to an interesting training with Richard Norton. Sensei Norton was so kind to take a day off from his movie shooting and humbly ran full day of training with us together with some other Judo, Ju-Jitsu and Brazilian Jujitsu and MMA martial artists at the Burwood PCYC.
Sensei Norton is really down to earth person and shared with us his knowledge in martial arts. The training began at 9.30am with stand-up self defense techniques. We were all shown simple and straight forward and practical defense move.
After a BBQ lunch we continue ground work techniques. It was something different for students who have never been on the ground fighting. The training was interesting and we had "a go" with different martial arts students, wrapping up the workshop at about 4pm.
At conclusion of the workshop we all wish the day ran longer. For those who missed this session...all we can say is...you missed it. Hopefully Sensei Norton will come by again from USA.

ITF Cake 2009.jpg

13th December 2009 was our once a year combined grading with all our dojang in NSW. We also had our annual presentation award and Christmas luncheon.
All students were eager for the grading and arrived early at the Burwood dojang though some were very nervous though. The students gained more confidence after the seniors belts went onto the mats to perform their grading routine. The black belt grading students received great support from their peers and parents and were cheered on by all during their breaking and sparring sessions.

1st Grandmaster Rhee Seminar in Perth 2nd & 3rd December 2009
Tams Budo with GM Rhee.jpg
Tam`s Budo students attended a very memorable seminar by the most senior ITF member in the world. He was assisted by Master Andrew Rhee along with Senior Master Master Linda, Masters Tam & Wong. The students enjoyed the seminar very much especially little Lucas Dedes who was lucky to received Grandmaster Rhee`s personally signed poster at the banquet dinner. Our 1st Grandmaster Rhee was so impressed with our club shirt the he asked for one and Mr. Dedes generously presented him one with his own. The seminar was so well received by all ITF students that Grandmaster have a second thought of returning for further seminar.....maybe Sydney!!

Selection for Junior World Championship and Australian ITF National Championship 6 & 6th December 2009
One of our top performer of the day was Nicholas Dang. He fought his way into the final and had a great match with some very experience exponents. With smart moves and precise scoring techniques, Nicholas tally up ahead in points of his opponents and made it to the final. Beating his last opponent was one of his greatest achievement in his TKD record. Well done Nicholas for being selected to represent Australia in the next Junior World Championship in Belarus September 2010.

Showing plenty of guts was none other then Musk Chow. She has always taken on the boys in sparring in the non-Tam`s Budo tournament. She said that she has no problem with it!!

Our other competitors were all well deserved a big congratulations for taking the big effort and great sportsmanship and performance at the National Championship.
