20/5/2017 Tam Taekwon-Do Mudokwan’s annual TK-1 Championship was held on Sunday 21-5-2017 at Valentines Sports Centre, welcoming over 130 jejas from numerous clubs around the state. The tournament kicked off first with kids’ special technique – young and energetic jejas attempted each kick with great enthusiasm. Meanwhile, black belt patterns were being judged in the other rings. Kids’ and adult colour belt patterns followed, again all jejas exhibiting a high standard of skill and technical knowledge. Judges, referees and marshals all made for a smooth process, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for each fight being swept up fairly and efficiently. Lunch break was preceded by a raffle. Congratulations to the winners, who snagged $100 and $50 visa gift cards. The competitive spirit could be felt, as competitors psyched themselves up for sparring. Young and old alike, sparring competitors showed exceptional skill, perseverance and sportsmanship in every round. TaekwonKids sparred with determination and zest, going in each time for 1 minute rounds. Older jejas sparred long and hard for 2 minutes per round, with some having to do a third round due to a tied result. Finals see everyone fought hard with determinations and excellent skills over 3 rounds of 2 minutes. Thank you to our valuable sponsor Mr. Hussain Hage from GH and Sons Constructions for donating the podium. Everyone was eager to compete hard to get their feet on the podium to receive their medals and trophies. Thank you to Il-Shim Taekwon-Do, ITF Ballina, Jun Tong International Taekwon-Do, ITF Newcastle, AITA Woy Woy and Goulburn Martial Arts Academy for your support. Thank you to all umpires who made the tournament ran smoothly and professionally.
